UPDATE 1:45 p.m. EDT: The Randall County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed the shooter has been shot by the APD SWAT team and has died. Those taken hostage are safe.

Police are now processing the crime scene.

UPDATE 1:40 p.m. EDT: The APD has said, via police scanner, that the shooting suspect has been shot. Upon locating his vehicle, officers found a gun holster and pieces of paper containing “Arabic writings.”

Police report that  the suspect’s vehicle is a light green Toyota Avalon, and was found parked in a handicapped space in front of the Walmart.

The Amarillo Police Department (APD) is on the scene of an active shooting situation in a Walmart in Amarillo, Texas.

“APD and several other agencies are on scene at the Walmart on Georgia. There are reports of an armed subject inside who may have hostages. More info when it’s available. Please avoid the area so that officers can focus on the scene and not traffic,” the department said in an alert.

The gunman may have taken hostages, APD officials warned. Police are looking for a Somali man wearing khaki pants.
