POETIC POSE: Samantha Thornhill recites a dramatic poem in Bryant Park on Thursday for the ninth annual Poem-in-Your-Pocket day, a celebration of poetry across the city. Thornhill has had a love of poems since she was 8 and now teaches poetry and creative writing at The Juilliard School. Her words on Thursday afternoon told of a tragic tale: A preacher’s wife, hit by a car and pinned against a tree, talks happily about her children; her husband holds her hand in her final moments of death. Beginning June 7, park-goers can hear live poetry sessions at Bryant Park starting at 7 p.m. on Tuesdays.
