Women in the music industry are subjected to tremendous pressure to stay looking young. Look no further than some of the top female singers in the world to see cases like this. Trending singer-songwriter P!nk, who turned 40 on Sept. 8, 2019, is taking a different tune.

The Grammy Award-winning artist and mom of two took to Twitter to share her powerful message in a series of inspiring “notes to self” about her desire to age gracefully. P!nk tweeted on Jan. 19, 2020:
“Dear Me, you’re getting older. I see lines. Especially when you smile.”

She continues:
“Your nose is getting bigger. You look (and feel) weird as you get used to this new reality. But your nose looks like your kids, and your face wrinkles where you laugh.”
While many stars may feel pressured to defy the ageing process by turning to cosmetic surgery, P!nk explained that despite the difficulty of ageing under the harsh gaze of the public eye, she would not be going under the knife any time soon.
P!nk chastized herself for smoking but then, in a second tweet, extrapolated her stance on ageing gracefully. She adds:
“Continued note to self. Every once in a while you consider altering your face, and then you watch a show where you want to see what the person is feeling... and their face doesn’t move. [I] cannot get behind it. I just can’t.
“I want my children to know what I look like when I’m angry.”
P!nk received hundreds of Twitter comments from appreciative fans in response to her empowering messages. “I can’t thank you enough for being you,” wrote one fan. “You changed my life and continue to inspire me every day.”
“You have created an amazing legacy that just keeps growing every day,” wrote another. “It is people like you that make this world a better place.”

The singer shares two children, daughter Willow, 8, and son Jameson, 3, with her husband of 14 years, former professional motocross competitor Carey Hart. Her honest, anti-surgery stance on Twitter isn’t the first time that P!nk has rallied against modern beauty standards in an effort to empower herself, her children, and her followers.

While collecting an MTV Video Music Award in 2017, P!nk took pause to regale the audience with a story about how she had helped her daughter overcome an insecurity about her looks. “We help other people to change,” P!nk said, speaking directly to her little girl, “so that they can see more kinds of beauty.”
P!nk was also featured as People magazine’s “Beautiful Issue“ cover star in 2018 and was celebrated for her unique stance on beauty.

“She’s a performer, mother, and role model whose honesty, humor, confidence, and sheer star power make her one of the most beloved and fascinating entertainers on the planet,” praised People’s editor-in-chief Jess Cagle.

P!nk continues to live up to her reputation as a powerful female role model for young girls, teens, and other mothers around the world. P!nk tweeted on Jan. 19, 2020, summing up her empowering philosophy:
“I’ve decided that my talent and my individuality is far more important than my face. So get on board, cause I am about to age the ol' fashioned way.”
