ST. PETERSBURG, Fla.—Pirelli World Challenge has gained a lot of popularity in the past few years with its grids of exotic cars and high-intensity sprint-race format.

Like most sports car and open-wheel series, Pirelli World Challenge races in the rain; fans dedicated enough to endure the elements get a good show.

PWC’s GT, GTA, and GTC classes had to qualify in the rain Friday afternoon, which means the drivers couldn’t hold anything back. The rain got harder just after the session started, then tapered off for the GTC drivers, who had to contend with puddles on the track..
