[etssp 82]Israeli and Lebanese soldiers exchanged fire across the border Tuesday.

According to the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), Lebanese soldiers fired at an IDF position along the Lebanese border in northern Israel. The IDF soldiers were in Israeli territory, carrying out a routine maintenance operation that was pre-coordinated with United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, or UNIFIL.

Sources in Lebanon claimed that the Lebanese army fired after IDF soldiers uprooted trees on the Lebanese side of the border, according to Lebanese media.

The IDF reported that one Israeli soldier, battalion commander LT. Col Dov Harari, was killed in the attack and another soldier was seriously wounded in the exchange of fire. Reuters reported that four Lebanese were killed, among them a journalist.
