Penny Dreadful season 1 is wrapping up, with the second-to-last episode airing on June 22.
The season finale will air on June 29.
Only a short description has been released for episode 8, titled “Grand Guignol.”
“Season 1 ends with Vanessa and Sir Malcolm facing their worst nightmares,” it says.
Penny Dreadful has been so popular that it’s already been renewed for a season 2.
It will be slightly bigger, with 10 episodes instead of eight.
John Logan will again write each episode.
“I think because it’s a genre show, it has done incredibly well in all the new ways you can watch, beyond any show we'd had before,” said Showtime Networks president David Nevins.
In a statement, he said the well-reviewed series was the result of his desire to “create a show that would have credibility with the (Comic-Con) audience” following the end of Dexter, which had done very well with that crowd, “but a show, which is a sophisticated drama that did well with critics and had psychological depth to it.”
The show has also been a success internationally.
Season 2 is slated to premiere in 2015, going into production later this year in Dublin.
The show re-imagines figures from the novel Dracula, as well as other famous characters from literature, such as Frankenstein.
