The 7.7-magnitude earthquake that hit southern Pakistan on Tuesday has killed at least 327 people, local officials said Wednesday, according to Reuters and CBC News.

Balochistan government spokesman Jan Buledi told the BBC Wednesday at least 340 people have been injured. Thousands of people spent Tuesday night without a roof over their heads. Entire villages were reportedly wiped out in the Awaran district.

The epicenter was 43 miles north-northeast of Awaran in Balochistan Province.

Balochistan is the largest province in Pakistan—it is approximately the size of Montana—but it is relatively sparsely populated by just under 8 million people, according to the Weather Channel.

A small island emerged off the coast of Gwadar port, about 650 feet long and 330 feet wide.
