On June 17, Japan’s Ministry of Defense released a map illustrating recent movements of China’s Liaoning and Shandong aircraft carriers, with the Liaoning even crossing into the second island chain just north of key U.S. military installations in Guam. This was the first time Japan has reported both Chinese carriers conducting simultaneous operations in the Pacific.
