Commentary
I was speaking at a conference recently when, right at the opening, someone walked onstage and asked all 1,600 of us who had gathered in a huge Marriott ballroom to stand and say the Pledge of Allegiance. I stood and put my hand over my heart. I joined in almost automatically, even though I honestly cannot remember the last time I said the pledge with that many people. Maybe I never have. But something about doing it in that huge room hit me in a way I did not expect.
