An ongoing Jingle Bells Rock event in Kitchener, Ontario, had a special theme night on Dec. 1 that has drawn criticism from some—an all ages drag night.

It was funded in part by the government of Ontario, according to advertisements for the event.

Jack Fonseca, director of political operations for the Campaign Life Coalition, told The Epoch Times it is a “sexualization of children.” In an email to The Epoch Times, he criticized the government for using tax dollars “in the corruption of children.”

Ontario’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport did not reply to a request for comment as of publication. Nor did Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s office.

A picture for the event shows a performer in a short, low-cut red dress, black stockings, and red high-heeled shoes.

The ongoing Jingle Bells Rock event runs November through early January at Bingemans recreation centre. It features outdoor light displays, holiday music, and s’mores made over open fire pits. Other “feature nights” include a country music theme and a retro party. When purchasing tickets, it is not clear to the buyers that the date they have selected has a particular theme.

Former MPP Belinda Karahalios criticized the show. “Why is [Doug Ford] using taxpayer dollars to pay adult men dressed as women to ‘perform’ for children? Drag shows - by their nature - are not for ‘all ages,’” she said on Twitter.
Miss Drew, one of the performers in the show, replied: “I would be more then happy to have a discussion about your hate motivating tweet.”

Drag story hours have come to libraries across the United States and Canada, and protest has come with them.

A CitizenGo petition against drag story time in Durham Region libraries drew about 9,200 signatures earlier this year. It said, “Drag Queen Storytimes involve biological men who dress up as highly-sexualized women—generally wearing tight clothing, short skirts, lots of makeup, and high-heels—reading stories to kids.”
