A California man has been arrested after he crashed the Corvette he was test-driving, killing the Carmax salesman in the passenger seat.

Alex Demetro was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony driving under the influence of drugs.

Warren Smale, 43, died from his injuries, police told KABC.

“Today is an incredibly sad day for the CarMax family. Our hearts and prayers go out to our colleague’s family. CarMax is working closely with local authorities,” the company said in a statement.

Witnesses told KTLA that Demetro had the Corvette going at least 70 miles per hour before crashing into a tree on Inland Empire Blvd.

Co-workers praised Smale while mourning him.

“He was the guy at work that it didn’t matter what kind of day you were having, he was there for you,” Lydia Garrett said. “He would make you laugh. He would make you smile.”
