A police officer was injured during a shootout with a suspect in Lawndale, California, on Tuesday morning, officials said.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, in a statement, said the shooting “left one officer injured and one suspect struck by gunfire” at 10:21 a.m. on Tuesday.

The suspect who was shot was taken to a nearby hospital. His condition is currently unknown, the sheriff’s department said, and one suspect is still on the run.

Officials said a Redondo Beach Police officer was shot, and he was “also transported to a local hospital where he is listed as being in good condition.” The officer’s injury is unknown, however.

Police have set up an active containment zone, and officers are conducting a search for the suspect.

The incident took place in the parking lot of the Best Western Motel in the 15000 block of Hawthorne Boulevard, ABC7 reported. A SWAT team was also deployed around the motel.

Aerial video shot by KTLA-TV showed police were moving to a parking lot behind the motel. Around a dozen police cars could be seen in the footage.

Also, a black SUV with what appeared to be gunshots in the windshield could be seen in the footage. KTLA reported the car crashed into a marked police car, which also had a gunshot hole in the windshield.

People with information about the shooting are encouraged to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Homicide Bureau at 1-323-890-5500.
