NYC Teacher Arrested, Allegedly Sent Obscene Snapchat of Himself to Student, Twitter Users Respond

A Brooklyn Teacher was arrested Tuesday morning for allegedly sending an indecent picture of himself to a 16-year-old student, Brooklyn District Attorney Kenneth P. Thompson announced.

The teacher, identified as Sean Shaynak, 44, of East Flatbush, teaches math and physics at the Brooklyn Technical High School, which is the same school Mayor Bill de Blasio’s son Dante attends.

On June 27 Shaynak allegedly used the Snapchat app to send a full-frontal nude picture of himself to a student, who was also his Facebook friend, Thompson said.

Snapchat pictures are automatically deleted within up to 10 seconds after being opened by the recipient, but the student preserved the explicit picture by taking a screen shot of it while it was displayed.

“This is a disturbing allegation as schools should be safe havens for students where teachers should protect our children from, and not expose them to, such disgusting sexual images,” Thompson stated in a release. “Here, the defendant is accused of betraying his position of trust and he will now be held accountable for his actions.”

“Shaynak finally got caught lol,” commented Sadia Farnace, a former Brooklyn Tech student, according to her Twitter account.

Shaynak was ordered held on bail of $25,000 cash and to return to court on September 30. He faces up to seven years in prison.
