Just because you live in New York doesn’t mean you can’t find a baguette that rivals the ones found in Paris.

FYI, “Bon Appetit” magazine voted Brooklyn’s Bien Cuit Bakery’s baguettes as one of the top 10 in the United States; the only one chosen in all of New York City.

That’s no small feat. Bien Cuit’s hard-crust, dark brown baguettes were also featured on the cover of Bon Appetit’s May 2012 issue. It’s been a few months, but we’re pretty sure they’ve only improved with practice.

Bien Cuit owners say one of the secrets to a great baguette is, in their case, letting the sourdough starter ferment for 72 hours.

Bien Cuit is located at 120 Smith St., near Dean Street.

In another part of Brooklyn, they’re celebrating Teddy’s Bar & Grill’s 125th Anniversary.

Teddy’s is one of the few remaining Victorian-era taverns in New York City. It’s well-known for playing host to writers, artists, musicians, and community activists, as much as to the locals that Teddy’s owners refer to as “colorful characters.”

Teddy’s tavern side has its stories. Having been owned by six different families over the years, the tavern has survived everything from prohibition to gentrification.

The grill side is celebrating too: 25 years in business.

To mark both anniversaries, Teddy’s is kicking off three nights of festivities from Thursday, Oct. 18 until Saturday, Oct. 20, with special guests like Brooklyn President Marty Markowitz, among other notable Brooklynites, as well as serving good food and music. No cover charge.

For more information visit Teddyswilliamsburg.com. Teddy’s Bar & Grill is located at 96 Berry St., on the corner of North 8th.
