Small business owner and tax preparer, Vicky Rodriguez is running for the Newport-Mesa School Board Area 7 trustee seat in the upcoming Nov. 8 election, against incumbent trustee Ashely Anderson and parent Kristen Seaburn.

“I want to serve as your trustee to build a bridge of communication between parents and the district to address the educational needs of all our students” Rodriguez, who did not respond to The Epoch Times for an interview, says in her campaign statement.

The schools included in Area 7 are Pomona Elementary, Rea Elementary, Victoria Elementary, Whittier Elementary, and Wilson Elementary.

Rodriguez is the owner of a Costa Mesa-based tax and notary business.

According to her campaign statement, she supports those in need in her community by offering free notary services to seniors and organizing toy and food drives. She additionally teaches citizen preparation classes for those on the path to becoming American citizens and helps them file tax returns.

Rodriguez’s priorities are expanding career education and opportunities, free tutoring for low-income students, increased safety training for district teachers and staff, more parent volunteers in the classroom, and additional class time to support underperforming students.

If elected, she says she plans to actively help in schools and not just work on the school board.

Rodriguez is a 28-year resident of Costa Mesa, whose children have attended district schools. Her youngest is currently in an individualized special education program.

She additionally has been a leader in her children’s school’s PTA.
