Starbucks will close seven locations in San Francisco—most in the downtown area—according to an internal Oct. 2 letter to San Francisco district managers.

The letter, from a regional vice president, first reported by the San Francisco Business Times, said the stores will close Oct. 22 after a “very difficult decision.”

The letter reportedly did not cite specific reasons for the closures, according to today.com—an NBC news outlet associate.

“We remain dedicated to investing in the City in meaningful and important ways that meet our partners and customers where they are—in the best way we know how,” Regional Vice President Jessica Borton wrote in the letter, according to today.com.

The news source said Ms. Borton promised that no employees would lose their jobs in the closures, but would be offered opportunities to transfer to other locations.

Out of the 59 company-owned store locations in San Francisco—excluding those in grocery stores—the seven closing are located at 201 Mission St., 442 Geary St., 425 Battery St., 398 Market St., 780 Market St., 555 California St., and 1401 Van Ness Ave., according to the news source.

Starbucks did not respond to The Epoch Times for comment by press time. But a spokesperson told today.com that the company reevaluates their business locations every year.

“This includes opening new locations, identifying stores in need of investment or renovation, exploring locations where an alternative format is needed and, in some instances, re-evaluating our footprint,” the spokesperson told the news outlet.

Additionally, today.com indicated that Ms. Borton’s letter said the renovation of four existing stores and three newly opened or reopened locations in downtown San Francisco have had a “fantastic start.”
