Nirvana Plays Secret Show At St. Vitus

Hours after being inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame at Barclays Center, Nirvana played a secret show at St. Vitus Bar in Brooklyn last night.

The band performed a 19-song set that included  “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Heart Shaped Box,” “About A Girl,” and “Lithium.” Filling in for vocals during various points of the show were Joan Jett, St. Vincent, J. Mascis of Dinosaur Jr., Kim Gordon of Sonic Youth and John McCauley of Deer Tick. This rare Nirvana reunion post-induction set lasted until 4 A.M.

Michael Stipe of R.E.M. inducted Nirvana and said the band was “lightening in a bottle” while Kurt Cobain’s widow Courtney Love said “We all started bands when we were kids, and this is my family” and later embraced drummer Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic.  

Joan Jett, St. Vincent, Lorde and Kim Gordon performed alongside the band during the ceremony in which they performed “Smells Like Teen Spirit,” “Lithium,” “Aneurysm,” and “All Apologies.”
