There could be not one, but three new Nexus and/or tablets being released in fall 2014.
According to reliable tech tipster @evleaks, HTC is developing three tablets at present, namely, the “T1” Nexus 9 / HTC Volantis/HTC Flounder, the “T7,” and the “T12.”
Google has not released a tablet since the Nexus 7 in 2013 a couple of weeks after the Google I/O, and the tech giant has been tight-lipped about any tablets in the offering.
Similarly, HTC has been focusing on smartphones for the past few years, and has not provided any information about a possible tablet.
Thus, it seems curious that Google is working with HTC to build the Nexus 9, which is also suspected to be the Nexus 8. The “confusion” about whether to call the speculated tablet Nexus 8 or Nexus 9 stems from the fact that the tablet is said to have a 8.9-inch screen.
Regardless, whether there will be a Nexus 8/9/HTC Volantis/HTC Flounder, and what the “T7” and “T12” HTC models are should be known in time, if previous leaks are anything to go by.
Much about the HTC One M8 was leaked before the phone was released.
Given that these tablets are said to be HTC devices, expect information to trickle out the closer Google gets to launching its latest Android OS.
Android L is rumored to be released in late October or some time in November.
Here are some of the rumored specifications of the Nexus 9 so far:
