A set of newborn twins and their 1-year-old sister lost both parents—just a few days apart.

The children’s father, Jevaughn Suckoo, 26, was shot in a gated community in West Palm Beach, Florida, according to NBC Miami, citing a Palm Beach Post database.

And three days later, his girlfriend, Stephanie Caceres, gave birth to twins—a boy and a girl. But she developed an infection during the C-section and was taken to the hospital’s intensive care unit. She died 10 days later.

The family told the station that the children’s grandparents will now take care of the newborn twins and the 1-year-old girl, Kailanie.

“We’re just devastated,” Joni Saunders, Suckoo’s aunt was quoted as saying. “They were looking forward to the twins coming. Then tragedy, a double whammy hit. Now we’re just trying figure out how to move forward.”

“I think right now we’re just very focused on the children, making sure that they’re OK,” she told CBS 12.
“She always told me that she had a dream of taking care of me because I have diabetes. And she always told me, ‘Mom, I’m going to take care of you,’ not knowing that I’m going to be taking care of her kids,” Stephanie’s mother, Irma Meza, added to WPTV.
A GoFundMe page was set up for the family to deal with relevant medical and funeral expenses.

“Like everything Stephanie did in life, she battled hard for 10 days. On July 26, the almighty also decided to call to heaven another angel,” the post read.
