Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, is the unofficial first day of summer, a federal holiday, and a day of remembrance for those who have died in service to the United States.
Schools, banks, and post offices are closed on Memorial Day, while most restaurants, stores, and attractions are open.
Numerous parades throughout the five boroughs mark the day with the participation of marching bands, war veterans, and military vehicles from various wars. Below is a list of parades in the area:
The Little Neck–Douglaston Parade; 12:00 p.m.–5:00 p.m.
This is the largest parade in all of NYC. Northern Boulevard between Morgan Street and 245th Street, Queens.
Memorial Day Parade; 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.
Rockaway Beach Boulevard between Beach 130 St. and Beach 94 St., Queens
United War Veterans Memorial Day Parade; 11:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m.
This parade is 145 years old, the oldest in the city. Third Avenue between 87th Street and Marine Avenue, Brooklyn.
Memorial Day Parade; 12:00 p.m.
In Manhattan, head uptown for a smaller parade in Inwood, which begins at Dyckman Street and Broadway, Manhattan.
United Staten Island Veterans Parade; 12:00 p.m.–3:30 p.m.
Forest Avenue between Hart Boulevard and Jewett Avenue, Staten Island.
