Up to 5500 employees will be upskilled through accredited ‘COVID Clean’ training as South Australia continues to ease restrictions.
The state government-funded infection control courses aim to educate workers in prevention and preparation.
They will be rolled out across a number of industries including hospitality, retail, tourism, transport, logistics, security and cleaning services.
The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation will provide the training through its education centre under a contract with the Department of Innovation and Skills.
In a statement, the federation said the state had been a world leader in crushing the COVID curve and the program would help avoid community transmission in the future.
SA branch chief Elizabeth Dabars said healthcare workers and the community should feel proud of their efforts to stop the spread of the virus.
“We have sadly seen COVID-19 spikes across the eastern border, and we want to avoid this happening here,” Dabars said.
“This training will enable a wide range of businesses and workplaces to gain the knowledge they need to stay COVID clean.”
The course will be delivered through face-to-face training and an online program from July 1.
The state has reported no new cases for the past month.
