UN Urges Australia to Lead World With Climate Goal

The U.N. is ramping up pressure on Australia to pursue a more ambitious emissions reduction target, but the climate change minister insists a new goal must be “in the national interest.”

U.N. Executive Secretary Simon Stiell has urged Australia to do more and cut emissions by 60 percent by 2035, following a meeting with Climate Change and Energy Minister Chris Bowen.
