Nancy Grace parking lot: Two CNN anchors were pretending to be in two different place reporting on the Cleveland, Ohio kidnapping case, but a careful look at the video seems to reveal they were actually in the same parking lot.

The cars passing by in the background and the stairs behind them appear to be the same.

The story was being shown to viewers in Phoenix, and Ashleigh Banfield and Nancy Grace, the anchors, were supposed to be in different locations.

Many are taking the apparent misrepresentation of the method of reporting as just another mistake by CNN, which was lambasted for reporting wrongly that a person under arrest for the recent Boston Marathon bombings was a “dark-skinned male.” However, in that case other media outlets, including the Boston Globe, also made mistakes by relying on anonymous sources and later said they were wrong

This case is different--especially because Grace and Banfield did the same thing while covering the Jodi Arias verdict on May 8.

The Atlantic Wire shows more gifs, as in the original case, that show the two anchors are practically right beside each other outside the Phoenix, Arizona courthouse in which Arias was tried and convicted of first-degree murder.

It’s unclear why Grace and Banfield are so close but not sharing the same screen. The Wire postulates that because Grace was also anchoring CNN’s Headline News, in addition to popping in on breaking news coverage, it was suitable to be on separate screens. Whatever the case, CNN didn’t return requests for comment from The Wire.
