Mortar shells blasted Damascus University, killing ten people and injuring 20 others, according to Syrian government official, reports AP. According to state run media, the death toll is 12, Reuters reports.

Mortar rounds hit the university’s architecture department in the central Baramkeh district on Thursday, according the officials, reports AP.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also confirmed the attack, according to Ruptly.com.

 

“Several mortar rounds hit the Baramkeh area and the architecture faculty compound, causing several casualties,” the human rights group stated.

Mortar shells are blasting daily in Damascus as Syria’s rebels are increasingly using mortars, according to AP.

 

Mortar rounds hit an area near Umayyad Square in the center of Damascus early March, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. On one day alone, March 3, 2013, at least 108 people were killed in violence across the country, the observatory said in its report.
