Dear Kathy,
I was laid off a year ago and my husband and I are struggling financially to make do on his salary. Every week he argues with me because I buy $20 worth of lottery tickets.
He says I’m being irresponsible because our finances are limited. I keep explaining to him that’s exactly why we should take a chance on winning - to improve our circumstances.
What better time than now to win the lottery? We need it more than ever! What do you think?
“Shelley”
Dear Shelley,
I understand why it would be appealing to play the lottery during this difficult season in your financial life. I also understand why your husband is concerned regarding preserving your financial resources at this time.
Perhaps the two of you could agree to disagree about purchasing the lottery tickets and compromise about how much you spend. Five or ten dollars a week may be easier for him to accept without complaint.
Good luck,
Kathy
