Michigan Woman Killed After Meeting Man on Dating Site PlentyOfFish

A parolee has been charged with the murder of a woman he met through an online dating site.

David Reid, 47, is out of jail on parole for assault with intent to commit great bodily harm in Flint, Michigan, reported NBC.

Detectives said that Reid killed Ranee Mckelvey, 53, after they met through the dating website PlentyOfFish.

Mckelvey was found dead on Feb. 11 after her coworkers went to her home to check on her after she didn’t show up for work.

She was found face down on her bed. Investigators believe she was suffocated.

Detectives think that Reid was trying to burn the home down after committing the murder.

The natural gas line behind the stove had been turned on and the house was filled with gas.

Numerous candles were left burning throughout the home.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton told WNEM that Reid had moved into McKelvey’s home after they met on the dating website.

PlentyOfFish describes itself as the leading free online dating site for singles.

Besides the ability to create profiles and find matches, the website offers various personality tests including a “Relationship Needs Assessment” and “Relationship Chemistry Predictor.”

Reid was released after serving 10 years in prison, reported the Detroit Free Press.

He was released on parole on the fourth attempt.

Reid is facing charges of open murder and attempted arson, reported ABC12.

Authorities are still awaiting autopsy results.
