Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain gets a release date, a new gameplay video, and a new trailer.

At this year’s Tokyo Game Show, game director Hideo Kojima demonstrated new Metal Gear Solid V gameplay during a special stage presentation.

As the commentary and text of the demo was entirely in Japanese and in the absence of any translation, it is unclear what the setting of the gameplay is, but it definitely is not the same Afghanistan mission that was shown during the E3 and Gamescom 2014 events.

Rather, we see Snake disembark from a helicopter into a jungle, do some sneaking around, and test out a new toy — a type of mine that generates an inflatable version of Snake. A guard goes over to investigate, and is promptly blown off a cliff.

Snake proceeds to ninja his way with the rest of the guards before whisking them away to his Mother Base via the Fulton system.

Demonstrated in earlier gameplay videos, the Fulton system involves Snake attacking a parachute to enemy soldiers, military equipment, and even livestock, following which they get magically zipped off a few seconds later.

A little way more into the video, Snake eventually meets up with Quiet, a scantily-clad female sniper who has the ability to cloak herself and travel from point to point very rapidly. Thankfully, she appears to be Snake’s ally rather then enemy, and will help Snake out from several vantage points in the mission.

Towards the end of the demo, Snake will get to take out an enemy attack helicopter with a grenade, make a mad dash for it as the chopper comes crashing in, and finally gets extracted via a friendly helicopter.

Quiet and Snake board the helicopter, and when Quiet faces Snake, her eyes glow black, much like in a teaser trailer showed off by Kojima before the TGS.

Kojima also showed the extended version of the trailer, which gives a hint as to the relationship between Snake/Big Boss and Quiet.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain will be released for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC sometime in 2015, according to Kojima.
