The Meryl and Maks dating rumors keep flying weeks after the end of Dancing with the Stars, even though both Davis and Chmerkovskiy have either denied the rumors directly or indirectly.

Davis said straight up that they’re not dating while Maksim’s brother said that the pair aren’t dating and are beyond romance.

The denials don’t ring true for a lot of fans because of the passionate chemistry that the Olympian and dance pro shared on the ABC show, but Chmerkovskiy’s dancing colleague has now come forward and said that they were just acting.

“I think they had a good relationship. All of us develop great relationships, Candace and I had a great relationship. We had great chemistry, we got along great, we laughed a lot. No one said ‘Oh are you guys like…’ because she’s happily married,” Ballas said of his relationship with dancing partner Candace Cameron Bure.

“I don’t think — in my opinion — there’s anything going on there other than just a good friendship and they just had great chemistry on the dance floor,” he said. “If you’re not able to make the viewer or the audience feel like you’re dating or hooking up or wanting to go out, you’re not doing your job right. Dancing is about acting, you have to tell a story,” he told Bustle.

Ballas compared the relationship between dance partners to that of actors who portray being in love.

“When you go see a movie your leading man and lady, they both could be happily married, but they [appear] to be wildly in love or passionately angry at eachother and that’s the same thing with dancing. I think Maks and Meryl were just really really good at that.”

In other news related to the pair, Maksim is headed to Dancing with the Stars India (Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa) to be a guest judge.

His gig is four episodes, reported Entertainment Weekly.

Meanwhile, Davis and figure skating partner Charlie White announced that they’re sitting out the 2014-2015 season but stopped short of announcing retirement.

The pair won the gold medal at the 2014 Sochi Olympics and were also part of the U.S. team that won bronze.
