Miss Connecticut Erin Brady was named Miss USA 2013 on Sunday night. Runners-up were Miss Alabama Mary Margaret McCord, Miss Illinois Stacie Juris, and Miss Utah Marissa Powell.
Miss Alabama Mary Margaret McCord, First Runner-up
Mary Margaret McCord, 23, is from Gadsden, Ala. She graduated from the University of Alabama with a public relations degree, with a double minor in communication studies and entrepreneurship. She will take a semester off before pursuing a Master of Science in Marketing. She’s a trumpet player, the youngest of three children, and she was born with a hole in her heart, according to the Miss USA website.
She is quoted on the website: “Pageantry has given me real-world experience to build my professional skills and has also allowed me to build my self-confidence while encouraging others to do the same.”
Miss Illinois Stacie Juris, Second Runner-up
Stacie Juris, 22, is from Chicago, Ill. She is studying fashion and business at Columbia College in Chicago, and hopes to own a dress boutique one day. She was Miss Teen USA in 2009. She is a freelance makeup artist and a former cheerleader.
She is quoted on the Miss USA website: “Being involved in pageants has given me a different insight to just how life changing the experience can be. I’ve learned life-skills that are absolutely relevant, not only to winning a pageant, but to being successful in business, politics, and education.”
Miss Utah Marissa Powell, Third Runner-up
Marissa Powell, 21, is from Salt Lake City, Utah. She is a singer in the musical group Geniveve, as well as a model and actress. She starred recently in ABC’s What Would You Do? She played varsity volleyball, and she is the ambassador for the non-profit organization Healing Hands for Haiti.
She is quoted on the Miss USA website: “It’s not all about winning. It’s about examining yourself, improving and striving to showcase your individuality.”
