A police officer in Maryland was shot and killed while trying to protect a woman threatened in a domestic dispute.

The Prince George’s County officer, who was off duty at the time, was in Brandywine when the shooting occurred.

“With broken hearts, we are announcing that one of our officers was shot and killed today. The brave officer was shot while stepping in to protect a woman threatened in a domestic situation. Please keep his family and our department in your prayers,” the county’s police department said via Twitter.
Sources told Fox5 that the suspect, who had a protective order against him, used a shotgun to kill the officer.

After the shooting, the suspect took the officer’s gun and then led police on a chase that ended in the area of Route 210 and Old Fort Road.

Officers shot and killed the suspect.

The woman, who was the officer’s neighbor, called police after her husband shot him, sources told WJLA.

When they arrived, the husband had fled, but she gave them a description of his vehicle.
