A new DLC is set for Mario Kart 8, and it could feature new cups and race tracks.

Nintendo has officially announced that the Mario Kart 8 DLC will come out on August 27, 2014 for all regions to coincide with the 22nd anniversary of Super Mario Kart.

Three new Mercedes model vehicles, the 1957 300 SL Roadster sports car, the 1934 W 25 Silver Arrow formula racing car and Mercedes-Benz' new compact SUV, the GLA, will feature in the DLC.

According to Nintendo’s official Twitter, the DLC will also come with an update, which adds map display on the TV and a records screen that shows the total number of coins a player has and an online win-loss record.

Players can also save their last used kart customization, edit other players’ highlights, and experience better online stability.

Rumors wise, Chadders on the MKboard hacked MK8, and found four images.

As the files are called “ym_CupIconDLC_00_130x130^h.bflim," the general consensus among speculators is that the images confirm the existence of four new cups and an additional sixteen new courses in the upcoming DLC.

Modern Distraction goes one further and theorizes that the pictures really hint at the existence of battle courses. In particular, the Yoshi Egg, Shine Sprite, a Boo, and Blue Shiny Shell, are weapons of sorts in earlier iterations of Mario Kart.
