[xtypo_dropcap]T[/xtypo_dropcap]he inspirational life experiences of 92-year-old Nelson Mandela, former president of South Africa, have found their way into his first biography titled, Conversations with Myself.
Based on his prison diaries, personal letters, notes and tape recordings, the book gives an insight into the emotions and experiences of the eminent human rights activist. Mandela was a father, a husband, and a prisoner for 27 years in prison on Robben Island during apartheid rule.
The book shows “what Mandela says to himself when he doesn’t have an audience,” Verne Harris of the Nelson Mandela Foundation in Johannesburg who put together the book, told CNN.
“What emerges is a Nelson Mandela who is fallible, quirky, vulnerable, and a far more accessible Nelson Mandela”, he said.
Before Mandela led the African National Congress Party in South Africa from 1990 on, he served 27 years of a life sentence in jail for sabotage and attempts to overthrow the government.
