Magnitude 6.5 Earthquake Strikes Vanuatu: EMSC

An earthquake of magnitude 6.5 struck the Pacific island nation of Vanuatu on Tuesday, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) said.

The quake was at a depth of 40 km (24.85 miles), EMSC said.

A tsunami was not expected after the quake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

The U.S. Geological Survey pegged the quake at a magnitude of 6.2 with a depth of about 10 km, after having initially reported a magnitude of 6.7.
