An earthquake of magnitude 4.4 struck Los Angeles at 6:25 a.m. PT (9:25 a.m. ET).

The epicenter is 15 miles west-northwest of the downtown civic center, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake occurred at a depth of 5.3 miles (8.5 kilometers).

Earlier estimates by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) put the earthquake at magnitude 4.7.

Damage is yet to be assessed.

LALATE News office felt “strong vertical movement, followed by a loud sound followed by a horizontal movement.”
