A lost dog was returned to her owners after recognizing them on a news broadcast.
Owner Alfred Shaefer and the 5-year-old bichon poodle named Tabitha had gone missing last year in Kansas City, reports Yahoo. Alfred, who has Alzheimer’s, was found unharmed at the time---but Tabitha wasn’t.
Dismayed by their loss, Alfred and wife Kelly Shaefer then put up hundreds of missing dog posters around the neighborhood and told local media outlets in an attempt to find their dog.
“To me she’s my kid. I love her as much as my husband,” said Kelly in a news broadcast from Fox 4 News. “She was just just like our kid,” added Alfred.
It turned out that Tabitha herself heard Missouri couple’s pleas for help.
According to People.com, Tabitha had been taken into another home by a family who thought she was a stray. The family had been watching the news when Kelly and Alfred’s plea was aired. Tabitha then recognized her owners and started barking madly, suggesting she was precisely the dog the couple was referring to.
After her identity was confirmed, Tabitha was returned to Kelly and Alfred.
