The Summit model of the Grand Cherokee family is distinctively designed and upscale. In fact, all the new Jeep trims are very competitive against the Ford Explorer SUV.
Grand Cherokee Summit offers nine distinct colors to choose from. My vehicle had a Velvet Red Pearl-Coat that complements the black interior. It harbors numerous features like Refined Premium Laguna leather seats, and accentuated wood on the dash and door panels. Other standard features include the Harmon Kardon Sound System with 19 speakers.
Buyers have two engines to choose from depending on your needs. The 3.6-liter V6 delivers 295 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque, and this can be coupled to an AWD drivetrain.
My Summit was powered by a 5.7-liter V8 VVT engine, accompanied by an 8-speed automatic transmission, delivering 360 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque. With this powerful engine, Summit still achieves 14 city-mpg and 22 highway-mpg for a combined 17 mpg average.
Heated and ventilated front seats, together with heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel welcome you to a comfortable cabin. There is more leather wrapped around the instrument panel and central armrest. As you start up the vehicle, your eyes are on the premium instrument cluster with tachometer. Behind the 8.4-inch touchscreen lives Uconnect 4C NAV with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support.
There is an abundance of leg and head room in the rear. To keep the rear passengers even happier, the $1,995 Rear DVD Entertainment Center adds two Blu-ray compatible screens to the back of front seat headrests, plus a video playback system for these screens.
This Grand Cherokee stands tall and proud on 20-inch X 8.0-inch fully polished aluminum wheels, with premium performance all-season tires.
The dual-pane panoramic sunroof, dual bright exhaust tips, rain sensitive windshield wipers, gun-metal headlamp bezels, and LED daytime running lights add to the aesthetics of this Jeep.
Standard safety features on all Grand Cherokee models include ParkView Rear Back up Camera, Park Sense Rear Park Assist with Stop, and Blind Spot Monitoring with Rear Cross Path Detection.
Jeep includes the Advanced ProTech II package as standard features on the Summit model, which adds a whole cauldron of advanced safety tech, including Full-Speed Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking, LaneSense Lane Departure Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go, and Parallel and Perpendicular Park Assist. This package is an $1,495 option available on the Limited, Limited X, Trailhawk, and Overland models.
The Summit model is quite high in the model line-up, so there aren’t that many options left. One noteworthy package is the $4,995 Leather-Wrapped Interior Package, which upgrades seat upholstery to Premium Laguna Leather, and wraps lower panels in leather too.
The Jeep Grand Cherokee is the best 2020 SUV I have driven this year. It is big, bold and beautiful, offering numerous comfort features. The engine is big and oh so powerful, but limited somewhat on mpg.
On the road, Cherokee drives as well as a luxury sedan. And with Jeep DNA, that makes Cherokee a good choice.
