There are few finer vehicles on the road today when it comes to comfort, standard safety features, connective tech, powertrain, and handling than the 2022 Lexus LX 600. The vehicle is offered in five trims: base LX, Premium, F Sport, Luxury, and Ultra Luxury.

The 5-door LX 600 is powered by a 3.5L twin-turbo V6 delivering 409 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque, coupled through Direct Shift 10AT 10-speed automatic transmission with full-time four-wheel drive. It can do heavy work — carrying a maximum payload of 3,450 pounds.

The LX 600 is made for bringing everything with you, capable of towing up to 8,000 pounds when properly equipped. The F Sport model aims for a sportier life style, featuring a more aggressive front fascia plus some performance parts, including F Sport-tuned suspension, Torsen LSD, rear stabilizer bar, 22-inch F Sport forged alloy wheels, and performance dampers. The gas mileage for the LX 600 is rated at a respectful 17 mpg in the city and 22 mpg on the highway, for a combined average of 19 mpg.

My LX 600 was Atomic Silver color outside with triple-beam LED headlights and LED tail lamps, power moonroof, power rear door with kick sensor, and roof rails. All these add to a beautiful exterior ensemble.

Seven passengers ride quite nicely resting in semi-aniline leather seats that can power fold flat for extra luggage. Front seats and the second-row outboard seats are heated and ventilated. The heated leather steering wheel feels nice in the hands.

It was hot in Texas this summer, especially in August, but the temperature in the LX was handled quite nicely by Climate Concierge which combines 4-zone climate control with seat heater/cooler and the steering wheel heating system.

The $2,660 Mark Levinson 25-speaker Premium Surround Sound System kept me toe-tapping and reflective listening to the 60s on SiriusXM Satellite Radio.

In the center of the cabin is the Lexus Interface with a 12.3-inch upper touchscreen and a 7-inch lower screen. This infotainment system supports Wireless Apple CarPlay, Wireless Android Auto, and Wi-Fi Connect with AT&T Wi-Fi hotspot and Integrated Streaming. Drive Connect with Cloud Navigation works naturally with Intelligent Assist (“Hey Lexus” activation keyword) and Destination Assist.

Quite frankly, there was more connectivity technology than I would ever need. It was just too complicated. Yet my son and daughter and three grandkids thought everything was perfect and easy to use. They made valiant attempts to help me understand better, but my flip phone just wasn’t much help.

The LX 600 comes standard with Lexus Safety System+ 2.5, which included Pre-collision System with Pedestrian and Bicycle Detection, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Road Sign Assist, All-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Lane Tracing Assist, and Intelligent High Beam.

The LX is rugged and comfortable. Eco, Comfort, Normal, Custom, Sport, and Sport+ driving modes offer the complete driving experience. This luxury mammoth of an SUV can also take you off-roading with Multi-Terrain Select, Crawl Control, Downhill Assist, and Multi-Terrain Monitor.

This vehicle is ready for some heavy work with its strong off-road capabilities, and it is great for pleasure driving on city roads. Heavy rains this past weekend turned out back pasture into a place for great mudding activity.

The LX will see a minor refresh at the end of 2022.

The MSRP for the 2022 Lexus LX 600 F Sport starts at $101,000.
