Dainis Grabovskis, a Latvian political candidate, causes disorder at a election debate

A Latvian political candidate was wrestled to the ground and then arrested while on stage during a televised election debate, according to media reports.

Dainis Grabovskis was seated in the front row of the audience, yelling at other candidates and at the audience before police came in, reported Latvia’s Reiting news website. He was arrested during a commercial break after he was told to leave by the hosts of the debate.

Grabovskis, a member of the Tautas Kontroles party, said he wanted to be included on stage and take part in the debate but was refused by the debate’s organizers, according to the news site. The incident did not appear live on television but footage and images of the incident were later posted on YouTube.

In the video, Grabovskis was surrounded by police and then ran up to the stage, threw his fist in the air before he ran into two podiums, and was then tackled to the ground. When he was brought down by police and was escorted out of the building, the audience cheered.

Police charged him with “petty hooliganism” for the disruption, according to Reiting.
