HONG KONG—Attention switched this past extended holiday weekend to the Canbo Senior Shield semi-finals for the city’s leading teams.

The first game was held on Saturday (27 December) at Mongkok Stadium where Wong Tai Sin took on Kitchee.

Kitchee took the lead in the 27th minute when Lam Ka-wai scored direct from a free kick from a tight angle, and Kitchee maintained the lead until the half time break.

Kitchee doubled their lead in the 68th minute when Jorge Tarres headed home Cheung Kin-Fung’s cross, and sealed the victory in the 83rd minute when Juan Belecoso drove home past Wong Tai Sin goalkeeper Cheung Wai-hung, and thus progressed to the final with a final 3-nil win.

The second game was also played at Mongkok Stadium, and featured a game between South China and Eastern on Sunday (December 28). Eastern took the early lead in the 8th minute Jean Kilama headed home Lo Chi-wang’s corner, and then doubled their advantage in the 10th minute later when Dylan Macallister scored from Giovane Da Silva’s pass.

Eastern extended their lead in the 27th minute when Lo Chi-kwan finished from Roberto Affonso’s pass, whilst South China pulled a goal back in the 38th minute when Yuto Nakamura finished from Chan Siu-ki’s cross, which resulted in Eastern going to the half time break with a 3-1 advantage.

Although South China appeared to create more pressure and chances in the second half, they were unable to reduce the deficit and Eastern advanced to the final with the final
3-1 win.
