Kitchee and Eastern move to challenge Premier League leadership, USRC Stay Top of Yau Yee League

There were two Premier league games played on both Saturday Dec. 6 and Sunday Dec. 7. Saturday’s first game at Hammer Hill Road Sports Ground ended in a 1-all tie between Wong Tai Sin and South China, Wong Tai Sin taking the lead in the 35th minute when Li Jian collected a long ball, and advanced into the box before finishing, with South China equalising in the 56th minute when Evan Kostopoulos fired home from Chan Siu-ki’s cross.

There were two Premier league games played on both Saturday Dec. 6 and Sunday Dec. 7. Saturday’s first game at Hammer Hill Road Sports Ground ended in a 1-all tie between Wong Tai Sin and South China, Wong Tai Sin taking the lead in the 35th minute when Li Jian collected a long ball, and advanced into the box before finishing, with South China equalising in the 56th minute when Evan Kostopoulos fired home from Chan Siu-ki’s cross.

Saturday’s other game involved two of the leading teams in Sun Pegasus and Kitchee playing at Mongkok Stadium, with Kitchee claiming the points with the only goal, Juan Belencoso pouncing in the 18th minute after collecting a poor back pass before finishing.

Sunday’s (Dec. 7) first game, played at Sham Shui Po Sports Ground, resulted in YFCMD winning 2-1 against I-Sky Yuen Long.

YFCMD took the lead in the 38th minute when Fernando Pedreira scored from Leung Kwun-cheung’s cross, leading to a 1-nil half time lead. YFCMD doubled their lead in the 81st minute when Diego Folgar finished from Fernando Pedreira’s cross, and I-Sky Yuen Long pulled a goal back in the 86th minute when Yuen Lap-cheung scored for a final 2-1 result.

In the late game on Sunday, which ended in the season’s highest margin victory, played at Tsing Yi Sports Ground, Eastern overcame Wofoo Tai Po 7-1, with veteran Yiu Hok-man collecting a hat-trick after coming on as a substitute for the last 30 minutes.

Eastern took the lead in the 5th minute when Giovane Da Silva converted Lo Chi-kwan’s cross, but Wofoo Tai Po equalised after 11 minutes through Vincent Weijl’s finish. Eastern regained the lead in the 19th minute when Jean Kilama headed in Michael Luk’s corner.

After Giovane Da Silva had a penalty saved by Wofoo Tai Po goalkeeper Leung Man-lai in the 32nd minute, Eastern extended their lead when Giovane Da Silva scored after Bryan Macallister’s shot was parried. Eastern took a 3-1 lead into the half-time break.

Eastern went further ahead when Yiu Hok-man scored after 77 minutes, and Miroslav Saric added Eastern’s 5th in the 88th minute. Yiu Hok-man then collected his hat-trick by adding the final goals in the 90th and 93rd minute for a final 7-1 victory.

The Premier League standings are led by Sun Pegasus, with 16-points from 8-matches, Eastern’s win moving them to joint second place with Kitchee on 13 points, though Eastern having played 6 matches to Kitchee’s 5, and South China are fourth with 12 points from 7 matches.

HKFA First Division
In the weekend’s HKFA first division games, HKFC won 6-1 against Double Flower, Metro Gallery Sun Source scored a 3-1 win against Kwun Tong, Southern were 6-2 victors against Tuen Mun, Yau Tsim Mong won 2-nil over Tai Chung, Lucky Mile drew 1-all with Citizen, with Niall Cox scoring for Lucky Mile, Kwai Tsing drew nil-all with Wanchai, and Sun Hei won 3-nil against Happy Valley.

HKFC now lead the table on 35 points, with Metro Gallery Sun Source second on 32 points with 2-games in hand, Yau Tsim Mong are third on 27 points with one game in hand on the leaders, Shatin hold fourth place with 26 points and 2 games in hand, and Southern are fifth on 25 points with 3 games in hand on the leaders.

HKFA Second Division
In the second division, Eastern District won 3-1 against Tuen Mun FC, Kwong Wah were beaten 2-nil by Wing Yee, Tsuen Wan won 7-nil against Fire Services, Kowloon City were 4-1 winners against Kwok Keung, Sai Kung won 7-nil against New Fair Kui Tan, and Sham Shui Po were beaten 4-1 by Mutual.

Wing Yee now lead the 2nd division table on 31 points, followed by Mutual on 25 points, Kowloon City on 24 points, Kwong Wah on 23 points, and Sai Kung on 22 points, all teams having played the same number of games.

HKFA Third Division
In the third division, KCDRSC were 4-1 victors over King Mountain, Telecom won 1-nil against KCC, Central and Western won 5-nil against Islands, Rainbow Legend North District won 2-nil against GFC Friends, Fu Moon won 3-nil against Lung Moon, Tung Sing drew nil-all with Fukien, and St Joseph’s won 3-nil against Ornament.

Tung Sing now lead the division on 35 points, ahead of Central &Western on 29 points, Fukien and St Joseph’s on 26 points, and Islands on 25 points.

Yau Yee League
In the Yau Yee League first division matches, Wanderers were 2-nil victors over Colts, Albion thrashed Baker Tilly Spartans 9-nil, Swiss XI won 5-1 against French Kiss, USRC were 6-1 victors against Boca Seniors, The Store House Squadron were beaten 1-nil by KCC Dragons, and GAS were 8-3 winners against Corinthians.

In the first game at Sports Road, Wanderers and Colts went into the halftime break at nil-all, the best chance having fallen to Terry Harris of Wanderers whose header into the top right hand corner was clawed away by Colts goalkeeper Freddie Toomer after 25 minutes.

Wanderers took the lead in the 42nd minute when Terry Harris was shielding the ball on the left-hand edge of the penalty box, and was adjudged to have been fouled by central defender Liam Herbert. Steven Everest converted the penalty with his shot entering the net via the inside of the left-hand post.

Wanderers sealed the victory with a goal after 60 minutes when Simon Galvin’s long throw from the right hand side to the corner of the 6 yard box was headed on by Danny Beattie, the ball looping over goalkeeper Toomer into the left hand corner of the net.

In the second game Albion were 3-nil up in 11 minutes against Baker Tilly Spartans, and were 5-nil ahead at the halftime break. Albion added another 4 goals in the second half to finish the game as 9-nil victors.

USRC now lead the table on 27 points, with Albion and Wanderers on 25 points, KCC Dragons are fourth on 24 points, and GAS in fifth place on 22 points, with USRC and Albion having significantly superior goal differences.

Second Division
In the Yau Yee League second division, HKDC Mobsters drew nil-all against Interglobo Colloids, Antonhill won 3-1 against HKU70’s, The Store House Hearts won 1-nil against ANP, CS Old Boys drew nil-all with KCC Knights, and SFALO Oxford were 5-1 winners against GGFC.

HKDC Mobsters now lead the table on 27 points, with HKU70’s second on 26 points.

Third Division
In the third division, University were 3-1 victors over HOB, IES drew 2-all with HKUSA, Darts drew 2-all with Scorpions, Yan Po were 2-nil winners against Goal Visio, White Youth were 1-nil winners against Green Cypress FC, and Dynamo won 3-2 against CAPS.

University now head the table on 32 points, with IES second on 28 points.

Fourth Division
In the fourth division, Power 22 won 2-nil against Standard Chartered, Grasshoppers were 3-nil victors over Rising Sun, Friends of Barclays were 4-nil winners against Youth Coaches, Outward Bound won 2-1 against Skyline, Hung Art were 3-1 winners against Bapcoll, and HKSS won 1-nil against WYFC84.

Power 22 now lead the table on 32 points, ahead of second placed HKSS on 30 points.
