Kristina Pratt, the older sister of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, escaped during the crisis situation at the Westgate mall in Nairobi.

The attack on the mall by al-Shaabab has left at least 68 people dead and hundreds of others injured.

Pratt ran out of the mall with a security guard by her side as the situation was unfolding, reported the Daily Nation, a Kenyan news agency.

“Wearing a white top and khaki skirt Ms Pratt came out running barefoot, distraught, carrying her black shoes and handbag, with a security guard by her side,” it reported. “She was received by friends and guided into a waiting blue Mercedes, parked on Peponi road.”

In addition, Robert Alai, a Kenyan blogger, said that the president’s personal assistant Jomo Gecaga and Jomo’s son were also at the mall during the attack.

Their status is unknown at the moment, although several Kenyans on Twitter said that they escaped uninjured.

Mbugua Mwangi, the nephew ofPresident Kenyatta, and his fiance Rosemary, were killed in the attack
