Mbugua Mwangi, the nephew of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, and his fiance Rosemary have died in the attacks on a Nairobi mall, it was reported.

President Kenyatta said on Sunday that his nephew–whose name is also spelled Mbugwa by some–and his nephew’s fiance–who is known to some as Wahito–were killed in the attacks, which have left at least 68 dead.

“These are young lovely people I personally knew and loved. They shall not get away with their despicable and beastly acts,” Kenyatta said in a public address, referring to the terrorists who attacked the Westgate Mall in Nairobi, the country’s capitol.

“Like the cowardly perpetrators now cornered in the building, we will punish the masterminds swiftly and indeed very painfully,” he said.” I call on Kenyans to stand courageous and united. Let us not sacrifice our values and dignity to appease cowards.”

Though Kenyatta didn’t identify which nephew, Capital FM, a Kenyan news agency, reported that it was Mbugua, who is the son of Catherine Mwangi. Catherine is the sister of Senator Beth Mugo and former elected official Ngengi Muigai, who are first cousins of the president.

Information sent to Epoch Times indicated that Mwangi’s father, Joe Mwangi, is a former captain in the Kenyan Air Force and still  a pilot.

Also, Kenyan Mandarina Njoroge said via Twitter that the pair were in the same pre-marital class with her brother and her brother’s fiance.

“They found out when the couple didn’t show up for class today:-(,” she said

Michael Mbugua Mwangi is my 2nd cousin and son to Catherine Mwangi and my 1st cousin Joe Mwangi a former captain in Kenya Airforce during the Jomo Kenyatta era and still a pilot based in Wilson airport. It is important to recognise that his father is alive and well depressed by his son’s death and just dont overshadow him with linking Mbugua to his maternal home ONLY.Show him some respect.Mbugua wasnt raised by a single parent.
