A sheriff’s department in Kentucky said two people have been detained in connection with a viral video that shows people abusing a dog.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office wrote on July 31 said that numerous people sent the office “a video of a dog being abused to our Facebook page.”

“We have seen the video and identified the subjects. At this time one juvenile and one adult have been detained,” the office wrote on Facebook.

The dog also apparently died, as the sheriff’s office said the “remains of the dog have also been located.”

Local news station WKYT described the video, saying a person is seen lining up to punch the dog. The dog is then heard whimpering.

One adult and a juvenile were detained, the report said.

“We are continuing the investigation at this time and more information will be released when it comes available,” the office wrote. “Sheriff John Root states that he greatly appreciates the public’s assistance on this investigation.”

According to the Sentinel-Echo, the video was widely shared.

Other details about the incident are not clear.
