Joran van der Sloot, arrested for the murder of 21-year-old Stephany Ramirez Flores in Lima Peru, has now confessed to her murder late Monday night, said Peruvian government authorities.

Van der Sloot was the prime suspect in the killing of Flores. Her body was found last Wednesday morning on the floor of a room at the TAC hotel in the Miraflores tourist district in Lima, Peru. The autopsy of the daughter of businessman and race car driver Ricardo Flores found that she died of a broken neck, possibly caused by a tennis racket.

Van der Sloot could now face up to 35 years in prison for his horrendous crime he committed.

Before his arrest, the police released a security video of the hotel, which shows Stephany Flores and Joran van der Sloot entering the hotel. The room was registered in his name at 5.15 am on Sunday morning. Four hours later the video shows van der Sloot leaving the room on his own and not checking out while carrying a bag and backpack. He left that day and entered Chile by road on Monday.

Van der Sloot came in to Peru on May 14 from Columbia with the intention of entering a poker tournament. He told the police he met Stephany in casino Atlantic City in Lima. 35-year-old poker friend Elton Garcia from Albania started to worry as Joran didn’t show up at a meeting Tuesday, and called him.

A receptionist at the TAC Hotel Anhely Aoad Marchena received the call asking for Joran. She remembered it had been two days since she had seen him, and as she went to collect the hotel fees, she found the body Wednesday morning.

A large-scale manhunt was conducted and with the help of Chilean police. Van der Sloot was apprehended in a taxi Thursday around noon near Santiago, Chile, about 2000 miles south of Lima. He was delivered to Peruvian authorities Friday. It was reported that while being transported in Peru, some Peruvian people expressed their grievances towards Van der Sloot, verbally and physically during a car change in Pucusana.

Van der Sloot is also a prime suspect in the disappearance of American teen Natalee Holloway in 2005 in Aruba. Extensive investigation into the case didn’t lead to a conviction, as van der Sloot was arrested twice but then set free due to lack of evidence.

Last Thursday van der Sloot was also accused of extortion in the US. He allegedly had offered to tell Natalee Holloway’s mother the whereabouts of her body, and the means by which she died, in exchange for 250,000 US dollars. He allegedly received 15,000 US dollars, which he used to finance his trip to Peru, Dutch media reported.

With the un folding of Van der Sloot’s case, Natalie’s family has opened the Natalee Holloway Resource Center which open on Tuesday in Washington at the National Museum of Crime and Punishment.

The Center was created to provide and give support to famlies of missing person and giving traveling safety tips to students.
