UPDATE: Sandi Jackson, Jesse Jackson Jr.’s wife, has been sentenced to one year in prison for filing false tax returns. She must also pay $22,000 in restitution, reports News Breaker. Jesse Jackson Jr. must do 500 hours of community service in addition to his 30 months in prison.

Jesse Jackson Jr. was sentenced on Wednesday to 30 months in prison, reported the Chicago Sun Times, for using $750,000 in campaign funds to buy luxury items, such as a Rolex watch. The former Illinois congressman apologized for his crime in court before the sentencing, even weeping openly, reported the Chicago Tribune. 

“I didn’t separate my personal life from my political activities, and I couldn’t have been more wrong,” he said. He could have faced five years in prison, according to USA Today.

His father, Jesse Jackson Sr., was present at the hearing.
