James Murdoch, the head of News International, will be recalled to give evidence to British members of Parliament investigating the now-defunct News of the World phone hacking scandal.

Murdoch served as the president of News of the World and will face questions from MPs from the Commons Culture, Media and Sport Committee on whether he knew phone hacking went beyond one reporter.

Former editor Tom Crone earlier this month told MPs that he told Murdoch about an e-mail which said phone hacking was a common practice at the newspaper, not the indiscretion of a lone reporter.

In a statement after Crone made the comments, Murdoch said that he was not told of the e-mail.

A spokesperson for Murdoch told the BBC that he “is happy to appear in front of the committee again to answer any further questions members might have.”

Committee chairman John Whittingdale told Sky News that it is “beginning to reach the end” of deliberations but is seeking to tie “loose ends” and will recall witnesses.

The MPs will question him on the differences between his testimonial in July and evidence given to the committee by Crone.
