Israel successfully launched its sixth spy satellite Tuesday night. The Ofek 9 was launched from Israel’s Palmachim air base and began transmitting Wednesday morning, according to local media reports.

Officials say the satellite will give the Israeli Defense Force greater abilities to spy on Iran’s nuclear activities.

“This provides Israel with greater operational flexibility, since we now have another set of eyes on a target,” the director of space programming at the Defense Ministry’s Research and Development Directorate (MAFAT), Chaim Eshed, told The Jerusalem Post. “This means that we have increased the rate we can visit a target.”

Ofek 9 will orbit at just over 370 miles, and its high-resolution camera has the ability to detect objects of just 27 inches. This is Israel’s most advanced satellite, according to officials cited by the Post.
