Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his determination to continue building an “undivided Jerusalem,” according to Israel’s oldest newspaper Haaretz.
"We will continue to build and be built in Jerusalem. We will continue to develop, plan, and create in Jerusalem," said Netanyahu at Ammunition Hill, a historic military post in east Jerusalem.
Palestinian homes will be demolished in the east to carry out construction, which the United States tried to put on hold for a month by requesting authorities first get approval from Jerusalem’s district planning committee.
The United States Special Envoy George Mitchell attempted to negotiate peace talks in the past months, but public Security Minister Yitzhak Aharonovitch said that the police force is ready to take on any obstacles preventing the demolitions.
