Scientists in Germany are getting closer to dating this amazing wooden statue, and unlocking its secrets.
Called the Shigir Idol, expert Svetlana Savchenko believes the structure’s face carries encoded data from ancient men of the Stone Age. It is thought to be written around 9,500 years ago, and could hold clues as to how sophisticated men was at the time.
Originally found in 1890 in the Ural Mountains of Mid-Western Russia, it was unearthed from a soil-like substance called peat.
