Seven Islamists were detained in Ireland over an alleged plot to murder Swedish cartoonist Lars Vilks.
In 2007, the Swedish newspaper published his sketch depicting a dog with the human bearded head and turban, resembling prophet Muhammad.
The drawing sparked uproar in the Muslim world, while the al-Qaeda associated group in Iraq offered a $100,000 bounty for his head.
Vilks told AP that he received two death threads in January, when a Swedish-speaking Somali tried to scare him over the phone saying “it is now his turn,” referring to the Danish cartoonist Kurt Westergaard, who was attacked in his home by a young Somali man with an axe. Westergaard caused similar outrage by depicting the prophet Muhammad with a bomb-shaped turban.
